Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I go in between Laser Hair Removal appointments?

Depending on your hair and skin type and the area being treated, you will usually require treatments at 4–8-weeks intervals. Each part of the body has a different hair growth cycle, so the hair loss will vary depending on what phase your follicles are in at the time of treatment.

Does laser treatment hurt?

It’s virtually pain free. The new VCSEL technology distributes the energy homogeneously along with the spot, eliminating the hot spot or tack effect that is a common feature in most previous technologies. Combined with in built skin contact cooling treatment is pain free. Unlike other lasers without the VSCEL system in the area where the light is concentrated causing pain, irritation and high risk of burning.

What is included in a Full Body Laser Hair Removal treatment?

Our Full Body Laser Hair Removal Treatment includes the whole facial and body area except the head, around the eyes, and eyebrow area.

Can I have Laser Hair Removal over the top of tattoos?

No, unfortunately, we cannot treat over tattoos with our laser. Laser targets pigment therefore it will target the ink within the skin, reaching boiling point and causing your skin to burn. We cover tattoos, treating around the tattooed areas with a gap of 3cm.

What are the side effects from Laser Hair Removal?

Temporary side effects may include redness and mild follicle swelling on treatment areas. All of which are normal post Laser Hair Removal treatment. It is important to follow the correct prep and aftercare to receive maximum results with minimal side effects to the treatment.

What is the aftercare for Laser Hair Removal treatments?

For 24 -48 hours after the treatment, please avoid excessive sweating, hot showers, shaving, waxing, and plucking the treatment area. For the next 5 days after the treatment, please liberally apply aloe vera gel both morning and evening or as many times as your skin feels sensitive. This will help minimise the heat sensation felt on the skin. After 5 days, we recommend you exfoliate the treatment area with the AHAS/BHAS to be used 2 to 3 times weekly. This will ensure the hair falls out evenly after the treatment. You will need to ensure all treatment areas are not exposed to direct sunlight for 14 days and apply SPF liberally every day.

Can I have Laser Hair Removal if I am on certain medications?

Certain medications can cause photosensitivity to the skin and this may affect the skin's reaction to the treatment. It is very important that you inform your therapist of all medications you take and or list them in your consultation form. You will then be advised if Laser is suitable for you.

What skin tones can have Laser Hair Removal?

At Alyssum skin we treat all skin tones with our medical grade Lasers. The only laser offering the blending of four wavelengths (755nm alexandrite) 810nm, 940nm and 1064nm (Nd:YAG) to optimize hair removal results. The first portable diode laser that combines high power, a lightweight hand piece, a great cooling system, and a repetition rate of up to 5 shots per second in a single shot mode and 10 shots per second in the sweep mode. Couple those features with the Milesman ability to blend wavelengths this represents true game changing technology. It is the ONLY laser that emits light vertically toward the skin. This development increases efficiency by maintaining the density of the laser in the selected area resulting in homogeneous effect. Every person has a unique hair structure, hair colour, thickness and root depth can vary within the same body area. This laser has a unique absorption rate and depth of penetration which makes the Milesman laser suitable for a specific type of hair. No single wavelength presents the perfect solution for all treatments. The compact blend is the only laser that completely and effectively covers all possible hair colour thickness and root of depth combinations, ensuring you optimal results.

What Laser Hair Removal machines do you use?

At Alyssum Skin, we use the Number 1 Diode Laser for hair removal. The Milesman compact blend is the result of 5 years continuous research between universities and high end engineering companies. Using next generation laser diode technology, Milesman compact blend offers many advantages over existing laser devices. It is FDA approved and uses the best technology to provide the best treatment results. Our advanced cooling machines used in all laser treatments cool your skin before, during and post-treatment to minimise any discomfort.

What body hair colour cannot be treated with Laser Hair Removal?

Unfortunately, we cannot treat blonde, grey/white, and natural red hair with our Laser Hair Removal treatment. The light of the laser is only attracted to the melanin (pigment) of the hair hence these hair colours cannot be treated.

How often do I need to have Laser Hair Removal?

Depending on the hair, skin type, and body area being treated, you will require treatments at 4-6 weeks intervals. For the facial area, treatments can be done at 2–4-week intervals. Each part of the facial and body area has a different growing cycle, so hair reduction will vary depending on what stage your follicles are in at the time of the treatment. After each treatment hair is reduced, so it is important to complete the course of 10 treatments and at consistent intervals for best results. We recommend a series of 8-10 treatments and maintenance treatments every 2-3 months for permanent hair reduction.

Will all the treated hair be removed in one session?

No, each Laser Hair Removal treatment provides a 15%-20% hair reduction. It's important to complete the initial course of treatments and at consistent intervals for optimal results. We recommend a series of 6-8 treatments done at monthly intervals and maintenance treatments every 2-3 months for permanent hair reduction. You can choose to extend the intervals if you prefer to have a minimal reduction.
